Public Works & Transportation
The Public Works & Transportation Department is the largest department within the organization, both in terms of number of employees and budget. With responsibilities ranging from airports, mass transit, landfill operations, street maintenance to stormwater management and sewage treatment, the department is charged with overseeing the basic elements of public infrastructure that impact the community on a daily basis. Cross-cutting all programs is the subject of safety, whether the safety of the public or the safety of staff.

Department Services
Services provided by the divisions and staff of the Public Works & Transportation Department include:

Fundamentally, the department fulfills the role of constructing and maintaining the infrastructure that is used to provide mobility (transit, freight, automobiles, walking, air, biking) for the community, ensure the public safety of its structures, provide services such as landfill and sewage treatment that supports a healthy living environment, and comply with all elements of the Clean Water Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
