Meeting Notices
If you plan on attending a meeting to participate or to observe and need special assistance beyond what is routinely provided, the city will attempt to accommodate you in every reasonable manner. Please email the ADA coordinator or call 816-271-4680 or TDD 816-271-4898, at least two business days prior to the meeting to inform us of your specific needs and to determine if accommodation is feasible.
Facility Accessibility
The City of St. Joseph remains committed to providing safe, inclusive, and welcoming spaces for residents of all ages and abilities.
All playground equipment installed in St. Joseph parks meets the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. While ADA standards do not require every individual play component to be accessible, the city ensures that each playground includes accessible features so that people of all abilities can enjoy them.
Accessibility is a top priority for our parks system. We continue to look at ways to enhance accessible routes and surfacing so individuals and families can fully enjoy their neighborhood parks. As part of this commitment, the Parks & Recreation Department routinely reviews park facilities and identifies opportunities for upgrades. These efforts are built into the city’s long-term planning to ensure that accessibility remains a key part of future improvements.
The Parks & Recreation Department oversees a nationally recognized park system, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This system encompasses approximately 1,500 acres and 26 miles of parkways and boulevards, containing 48 parks and related facilities. Working alongside Parks & Recreation, the Civic Facilities Department provides opportunities that enhance quality of life and add to the city’s economic base through tournaments, festivals, attractions, and programs. Together, both departments offer a wide range of recreational and leisure opportunities designed for all ages, interests and abilities, supporting healthy, active and enjoyable lifestyles.
If you require assistance or accommodations to access programs, services or events provided by the City of St. Joseph, or to report an accessibility concern, please contact us.
