About the Department
The Parks, Recreation & Civic Facilities Department strives to provide a variety of experiences and an unmatched quality of life, while adding to the St. Joseph economic base via tournaments, festivals, attractions, and programs.

The St. Joseph park system, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is comprised of approximately 1,500 acres, 26 miles of parkways and boulevards, containing 48 parks and related facilities. The recreation division coordinates a wide range of programs, instructional, developmental and leisure opportunities for all ages, interests and abilities.

The department strives to provide the opportunity for each individual to have a healthy, active, safe, and enjoyable lifestyle.

St. Joe FIT

St. Joe FIT is a free program designed to encourage participants to live an active lifestyle while enjoying St. Joseph's great parks and trails.  Registered participants can join classes and other fitness activities due to sponsorships by the Senior Foundation, Plasma Biological Services and through partnerships with the REC Center and the YMCA!  St. Joe FIT is gearing up for the 2019 season with the first event scheduled for 5:30-6:00 pm on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at the Remington Nature Center Parking lot.  There are some positive changes to the program this year with trail walks from April 12-May 30, indoor walks at the Rec Center on Thursdays from June 6 through August 29 and more trail walks from September 5 through October 17.  Check back here for information about other fitness opportunities with St. Joe Fit in the future to learn more about what is being planned for you!  Register today!
