Prevention and Outreach

Interactive Programs

A variety of interactive programs and educational materials are provided to individuals and groups in northwest Missouri in an effort to reduce the spread of sexually transmitted diseases such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). Special outreach events in at-risk communities are also provided.

Free educational programs, information, and outreach services are available through our health educator. Persons who are HIV positive may receive wellness, education, and support activities through the case management program.

Testing & Treatment

Sexually transmitted infection (STI) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) testing is available by appointment only. Please call the Health Department at 816-271-4636 to schedule.

The Health Department is able to test for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and HIV. All testing is done confidentially and provided with risk reduction information.

A fee of $10 is assessed for testing. Missouri HealthNet insurance is also accepted.

The Health Department utilizes the Missouri State Public Health Laboratory in Jefferson City to test the samples submitted. Results are typically available in one and half to two weeks.

Onsite treatment is available for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. Case management and treatment services are also available for HIV.
